ROLL CALL
Mayor Eissey called the meeting to order at 2:35 p.m. All members of the Village Council were
present. All members of staff were present except the Village Attorney. Public Safety Director
Jimmy Knight was present to give a status report on preparations for Hurricane Wilma.
RESOLUTION 96-2005 ADOPTED - DECLARING A STATE OF LOCAL EMERGENCY
Councilman Noel moved that Resolution 96-2005 entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF NORTH PALM
BEACH, FLORIDA, DECLARING A STATE OF LOCAL EMERGENCY
be adopted. Vice Mayor Norris seconded the motion. Village Manager Mark Bates advised that
the resolution is effective upon declaration of emergency by Palm Beach County. By consensus,
the following sentence was added at the end of Section 2: "If the Board of County
Commissioners of Palm Beach County has not issued a declaration of emergency within five
days, this resolution expires." Thereafter, the motion passed unanimously.
Brief discussion was held concerning curfews. Chief Knight advised that presently there are no
plans for any curfew.
Chief Knight provided a copy of the 1:00 p.m. advisory, and a list of answers to frequently asked
questions regarding category 4 or 5 hurricanes. Chief Knight gave a synopsis of information
from the 1:00 p.m. conference call with Palm Beach County Emergency Operations Center and
the Hurricane Center. Chief Knight reported on Village preparations for Hurricane Wilma.
There being no further business to come before the Council, the meeting adjourned at 2:55 p.m.
