2002-015 Supports Funding of Regional Planning CouncilsRESOLUTION 15-2002 A RIiSOl,UT10N OF 7'HE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF NORTH PALM BRACH, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING INCREASED FUNDING FOR REGIONAL, PLANNING COLINCI LS. WHF'sREAS, the Village of North Palm Beach strongly supports adequate funding of regional planning councils in the State of Florida; and WI IEREAS, the Village of North Palm Beach recognizes that regional planning councils arc required to perform numerous state-mandated economic development, growth management, emergency management, technical assistance, interlocal dispute resolution functions, and other important statutory duties directed by the Legislature; and WHEREAS, the Village of North Palm Beach recognizes that regional planning councils also provide a wide range of services and assistance in support of local government initiatives and programs; and WHEREAS, the Village of North Palm Beach believes the State is disproportionately relying on local dues and revenue from local government to support regional planning councils which has resulted in the reduction of many regional and local programs and initiatives; and WHEREAS, the Village of North Palm Beach believes the State's responsibility for supporting regional planning councils should be increased and shared more equally between the State and its local governments. NOW, THEREFORE, BE ]T RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL, OF 7'IIE V I I,LAGI: OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Village Council of the Village of North Palm Beach hereby requests the legislature support the Florida Regional Councils Association budget request for recurring funding for regional planning councils as a $3.0 million line item in the Department of Community Affairs base budget. Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. Section 2. The Village Clerk is directed to distribute copies of this resolution to the Honorahlc Ciovcrnor Jeb Bush, The Executive Office of the Governor, The Capitol, Tallahassee, Florida 32399-0001; the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council, 301 East Ocean Boulevard, Suite 300, Stuart, Florida 34994; and Ronald Book, Executive Director, Florida Regional Councils Association, 2999 Northeast 191st Street, PI16, North Miami Beach, Florida 33180. 1'ASSI;I?
