A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF
NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, OPPOSING THE FLORIDA
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION CLOSING THE PGA BOULEVARD
BRIDGE IN ITS ENTIRETY WHILE MAKING REPAIRS AND
RECONSTRUCTION AND SUPPORTING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT
OF TRANSPORTATION KEEPING ONE (1) SPAN OF THE BRIDGE OPEN
AT ALL TIMES FOR TRAFFIC DURING THE REPAIR/CONSTRUCTION
PROJECT; DIRECTING THE VILLAGE CLERK TO FURNISH A CERTIFIED
COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE DISTRICT ENGINEER FOR THE
FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IN FORT LAUDERDALE,
FLORIDA, AND SUCH OTHER PERSONS AND GOVERNMENTAL BODIES
AS THE MAYOR MAY DIRECT; AND, PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Transportation plans a repair and
reconstruction of the PGA Boulevard bridge in the spring of 2001 and intends to close both
spans of the bridge to traffic until the project is completed; and
WHEREAS, the closing of the bridge to traffic during the construction project would
result in a diversion of traffic onto the Village's streets and roadways and create traffic
backups and unsafe conditions for vehicular traffic; and
WHEREAS, the closing of the PGA Boulevard bridge and resulting traffic on Village
streets and roadways would result in additional response time for police, fire and
paramedic divisions of the Village Public Safety Department and thereby jeopardize the life
and safety of citizens within the Village.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Village Council of the Village of North Palm Beach, Florida, does
• hereby oppose the proposed closing of the PGA Boulevard bridge to traffic by the Florida
Department of Transportation while repairs and reconstruction are being conducted on the
bridge and supports the Florida Department of Transportation keeping one span of the
• bridge open at all times for traffic during the construction project.
Section 2. The Village Clerk is hereby directed to furnish a certified copy of this
resolution to the District Engineer for the Florida Department of Transportation in Fort
Lauderdale, Florida, and such other persons and governmental bodies as the Mayor may
direct.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
