2000-048 Endorses Starace for FL League of Cities 2nd VPRESOLUTION 48-2000
• A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF NORTH PALM
BEACH, FLORIDA, ENDORSING THE CANDIDACY OF COUNCILWOMAN CARMELA
STARACE AS SECOND VICE PRESIDENT FOR THE FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES,
INC.; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, a Second Vice President for the Florida League of Cities, Inc. (the "FLC")
will be elected at its 74th Annual Conference to be held at the Broward County Convention
Center in August, 2000; and
WHEREAS, Royal Palm Beach Councilwoman, Carmela Starace, has announced her
candidacy for the position of Second Vice President for the FLC; and
WHEREAS, the Palm Beach County League of Cities, Inc. recognizes Carmela Starace's
contribution to local government as an elected official serving on the Village Council of the
Village of Royal Palm Beach over the last ten years; and
WHEREAS, her experience as a member of the FLC Board of Directors and as President
of the Palm Beach County League of Cities, Inc., as well as membership on the FLC
Intergovernmental Policy Committee, the FAST Committee of the FLC, the FLC Legislation
Committee, and as liaison to the Environmental Quality Policy Committee will be valuable in
establishing herself as the Second Vice President of the FLC; and
WHEREAS, her participation in local and regional government has been exceptional
while serving as a member of the Growlh Management Review Working Group; Board Member
and Chair of the Government Committee for the Palms West Chamber of Commerce; member of
the Gold Coast League of Cities; and Chair of the CAC Board for the Solid Waste Authority of
Palm Beach County; and
WHEREAS, Carmela Starace maintains her close association with the community while
participating in local civic organizations and has served as Vice President of the Lions Club,
• Rotary Member, Board Member for the Royal Palm Beach Jaycees, founder of the Young at
Heart Senior Group in Royal Palm Beach, a member of SAC for Crestwood Middle School, and
a Boazd Member of the Parish Council for Our Lady Queen of the Apostles in Royal Palm Beach; and
WHEREAS, Councilwoman Starace is a true believer in the worth of local municipal
government and the Home Rule process and is anxious to serve the FLC and help further its
• mission to help our local communities. Ms. Starace is an ideal candidate for the office of Second
Vice President for the FLC as she continues to fulfill her commitment to the belief that the best
government for the people is the one closest to them... City Government.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE
OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Village Council of the Village of North Palm Beach, Florida, supports the
candidacy of Carmela Starace as Second Vice President for the FLC.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage.
