1993-039 Opposes Widening of A1A within Village Limits' RESOLUTION N0. 39-93
A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL
OF THE VILLAGE OF NORTH PALM BEACH,
FLORIDA, IN OPPOSITION TO THE
WIDENING OF STATE ROAD AlA WITHIN
THE INCORPORATED LIMITS OF THE
VILLAGE OF NORTH PALM BEACH AND
URGING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION TO CLASSIFY SAID ROAD
AS A CONSTRAINED FACILITY; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the portion of State Road AlA that traverses the
Village of North Palm Beach is in close proximity to Lake Worth and
has a delicate ecological balance that supports marine wildlife and
spawning grounds for Lake Worth; and
' WHEREAS, the widening of any segment of State Road AlA
within the Village of North Palm Beach would raise serious
environmental concerns due to the necessity of vegetation removal
inclusive of mangroves and seagrapes; and
WHEREAS, the Village of North Palm Beach has recognized
in its Comprehensive Land Use Plan and support documentation that
the area surrounding State Road AlA within the Village has unique
environmental sensitivity and that widening of State Road AlA
within the Village would have serious environmental impact; and
WHEREAS, increasing the number of lanes on State Road AlA
within the Village is unjustified, unttecessary and detrimental to
the existing and future quality of life of Village residents.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM
BEACH, FLORIDA:

Section 1. The Village Council of the Village of North
Palm Beach, Florida, does hereby state its strong opposition to the
widening of State Road AlA within the incorporated limits of the
Village of North Palm Beach.
Section 2_ The Village Council of the Village of North
Palm Beach, Florida, urges the Florida Department of Transportation
to classify said road as a constrained facility and that any and
all widening projects for State Road AlA within the Village be
removed from present and future plans of the Florida Department of
Transportation.
' Section 3. The Village Clerk is directed to forward
certified copies of this Resolution to the Board of County
Commissioners of Palm Beach County, Florida, and the Florida
Department of Transportation.
Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its adoption.
