' A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA,
STRONGLY OPPOSING ANY HIGH LEVEL, FIXED SPAN BRIDGE TO REPLACE THE PRESENT
PARKER BRIDGE AND SUPPORTING TIMED OPENINGS; FURNISHING COPIES OF THIS
RESOLUTION TO U.S. SENATORS CONNIE MACK AND BOB GRAHAM, U.S. CONGRESSMEN TOM
LEWIS AND CLAY SHAW, THE PALM BEACH COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION, AND THE
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PALM BEACH COUNTY; AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, [he Department of Transportation is in the process of designing unprovements [o U.S.
Highway 1 from just south of [he Parker Bridge in North Palm Beach [o Indiantown Road in Jupiter; and
WHEREAS, the proposed DOT plans include the renovation and/or reconstruction of the Parker Bridge
to a faced span of sixty-five fee[ high, or a bascule design of forty-two feet high; and
WHEREAS, said plans for these bridge heights at that location would create visual pollution, would
spread sound and noise a longer distance throughout a primarily residential area, and would completely destroy
the adjacent property values as well as impair the health, safety and weffare of the neighboring residents; and
' WHEREAS, [he DOT proposes a widening of U.S. Highway 1 immediately north and south of the
present span; and
WHEREAS, timed openings can greatly enhance vehicular traffic flow;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM
BEACH, FLORIDA:
i n .The Village Council of North Palm Beach, Florida, hereby goes on record as opposing the
aforementioned changes.
i n 2. The Village Council of North Palm Beach, Florida requests that the Department of
Transportation explore a tunnel as a fvst viable option.
i n .The Village Council of North Patin Beach, Florida secondly recommends using [he present
level bascule bridge, with any necessary improvements.
S i n 4. The Village Council of North Patin Beach, Florida strongly supports further studies of the
traffic pattern impacts resulting from the completion of I.95, Military Trail and A-1-A before the U.S. #1 report
' is acted upon.
section 5. The Village Council of North Pahn Beach, Florida supports the demand that the Parker
' Bridge open only on the hour and half-hour year-round, not on a demand basis, and said hours be posted for
both motorists and boaters.
i n The Village Clerk of the Village of North Palm Beach, Florida is hereby authorized and
directed to furnish copies of this Resolution to U.S. Senators Connie Mack and Bob Graham, U.S. Congressmen
Tom Lewis and Clay Shaw, the Palm Beach County Legislative Delegation, the Board of County Commissioners
of Palm Beach County, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Florida Department
of Transportation.
i n 7. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon passage.
