CODE AMENDMENT — CANDIDATE QUALIFYING PERIOD
Mr. Rubin explained the proposed Ordinance amending Section 10-5, Candidates for office;
qualifying, of Chapter 10, Elections, of the Code of Ordinances to designate the first seven business
days in January as the qualifying period for the general election held the second Tuesday in March.
He explained that cities were required to make changes due to the Statutory requirements of the
Supervisor of Elections. He noted what was being done in other municipalities to address the issue
and noted this option kept the qualification closer to what is typically done and avoids holidays.
Council agreed to the change by consensus and had no questions.
