NORTH PALM BEACH COUNCIL MEETING 1-13-00
village
for NPBCC Restaurant
Event to take place Saturday afternoon, February 19 or 26, open to the public
by Denise Jaegers
Village Manager Dennis Kelly
asked council members for their
input regarding the scheduling of the
grand opening of the newly
remodeled North Palm Beach
Country Club during his report last
Thursday evening. Kelly suggested
the mid- to late afternoon hours of
Saturday, either the 19 or 26 of
February.
After spending nearly $500,000
over the past year to refurnish, refurbish
and remodel the interior, including the
dining room, kitchen, locker rooms and
lounge area, the Village is ready to
formally unveil its new Country Club
facility to the public, a project long
overdue, in the opinion of many
residents.
Although the restaurant has been
operating under the management Eddie
d's since last fall, this will be its official
grand opening. As several council
members were unable to confirm
whether their schedules would conflict,
the final date will be set during the next
council meeting.
But much to their chagrin, council
members subsequently voted 4-1 to
spend an additional $131,000 to
complete the kitchen and snackbar
renovations, after rejecting the initial
bid from Mark Schwartz Construction
and Mayfair Construction, which was
about $50,000 higher. (The Resolution
will basically enable staff to negotiate a
change order to accept the lower bid.)
In other action, council:
• Approved and enacted, 4-1,
second reading of an ordinance to
create a Planned Unit Development
(PUD) known as "Prosperity Harbor
North" by providing and regulating the
location and placement of structures
inclusive of docks, pilings, piers,
mooring posts and vessels within the
interior harbor area and the Intracoastal
Waterway area located within the PUD.
(Vice Mayor Joseph Tringali cast the
lone dissenting vote.)
• Unanimously approved and
enacted second reading of an ordinance
amending the 1999-2000 FY General
Fund Budget to appropriate funds in the
amount of $7,384 for law enforcement
Overtime Pay for Bicycle Patrol, as
funded by the Community Affairs Law
Enforcement Block Grant.
• Unanimously approved first
reading of an ordinance to amend the
North Palm Beach General Fund
Budget for FY 1999-2000, to
appropriate funds in the amount of
$10,000 for Community Center batting
cages; funded through the Palm Beach
County Recreation Assistance Program.
• Unanimously authorized the
Mayor and Village Clerk to enter into
an agreement with Wachovia Bank for
a Lease -Purchase of eight automobiles
in the amount of $112,000; plus
$30,000 for the purchase of a Point -of -
Sale system for the NPBCC restaurant,
for a combined total loan of $142,000,
with a 4.07% interest rate.
• Unanimously adopted a resolution
approving a contract with American
Equipment leasing for 80 golf cart
protectors (to protect clubs from foul
weather), with funds to be expended
froni Rental Equipment.
