NORTH PALM BEACH — The faces may be
the same but the titles have changed.
In what can best be explained as a political
version of musical chairs, village council mem-
bers last month swapped positions.
Assistant Attorney General Joseph A.
Tringali is now the village's mayor following
the March 23 council reorganization.
Tringali, who was serving as vice mayor,
moved up to the mayor's seat following his
nomination by Edward Eissey, the immediate
past mayor who is now the village's vice
mayor. .
Completing the reorganization was the
nomination and election of Councilman David
Norris by his colleagues to the position of
president pro tem. Norris had served as mayor
in 1998.
"Let's move forward this summer with a sailing program for
parents and kids. And let's finally get moving on the devel-
opment of Anchorage Park. Let's make it into the jewel it
deserves to be," said new Mayor Joseph Tringali.
After being sworn in by Village Clerk
Kathleen Kelly, the three men shuffled around
the dais, changing seats and name plates.
Tringali then urged the community to em-
brace what he called its two greatest assets —
its heritage and its waterways.
"We are the only community between Jupi-
ter and Boca Raton with so many waterways,"
said Tringali, who is a past commodore of the
North Palm Beach Yacht Club.
"Let the others talk about their ballfields.
But let's see them try to duplicate our water-
ways," he said.
"We need to improve those waterways.
Most of all, we need to improve our thinking
about our use of those waterways to benefit
our community," Tringali said.
"Last year, with the help of volunteers from

the North Palm Beach Yacht Club, and at
absolutely no expense to the taxpayers,
we started a village kayaking program,"
Tringali said.
"Let's build on that; let's move forward
this summer with a sailing program for
parents and kids. And let's finally get
moving on the development of Anchorage
Park. Let's make it into the jewel it de-
serves to be and always should have
been."
Tringali also stressed the importance of
North Palm Beach's heritage.
"Our village is unique in that the chil-
dren and the grandchildren of our
founders are moving back and driving
their roots ever deeper into North Palm
Beach soil. This is their home," Tringali
told the council.
"This year, let's do something to wel-
come them back. Let's get to know — re-
ally know — our neighbors. Let's do it on
our own special Heritage Day with pic-
nics and parades; block parties and events
at our country club," he added.
"And let's make sure the youngest
membdrs of our community are involved
in this, because they are the ones who ben-
efit most from a good dose of heritage." 0
