NORTH PALM BEACH —
Former Village Councilman Lar-
ry Kelley was a quiet man whose
kindly demeanor showed no
signs he had been vice president
of a Fortune 500 company.
But those who knew him
credit him with applying 'solid
business sense to critical council
decisions, including approval of
the new, $3.5 million police and
fire station.
Mr. Kelley died Monday night
of complications from cancer and
heart disease. He was 78.
A, two -term councilman and
20-year village resident, Mr.
Kelley had been in poor health in
recent years and chose not to run
for a third term.
His friend and golfing buddy,
former Congressman Tom Lewis,
said Mr. Kelley's reputation was
left unscathed by politics.
"I never heard anyone say an
unkind word about Larry Kelley,
and when you're in public office
you frequently rub people the
wrong way," Lewis said.
Until his health failed, Mr.
Kelley was active -with the North
Palm Beach Board of Realtors,
Old Port Cove Yacht Club, North
Palm Beach ' Chamber of Com-
merce and the Navy League,
Lewis said.
