Bill Eyed
NORTH PALM BEACH -
After Dec. 10, this village
hopes it will be the safest
place for birds in northern
Palm Beach County.
On that date, the village
council is expected to pass a
bill establishing North Palm
Beach as a bird sanctuary and
providing punishment for
those who kill, injure or maim
feathered friends within the
village limits.
State law makes the proce-
dure to form a bird sanctuary
a difficult one. The special
provision must be included in
a municipality's charter and
the revision of a charter spe-
cifically to make room for
birds is not relished by many
officials.
However, in North Palm
Beach, a complete charter re-
vision began early this year
and a provision for establish-
ing the bird sancuary was in-
cluded.
On Dec. 10, village council-
men will;pass the enacting bill
for the "bird law." After this
passes, anyone found guilty of
.harming the winged animals
will be subject to a fine not to
exceed $500 and -or imprison-
ment not to exceed 60 days.
