NORTH PALM BEACH —
One of the busiest corners in
this village is the former
dining room of the old coun-
try club.
Food is no longer pur-
veyed, but village residents
of all ages visit it often
searching for and finding
entertainment and knowl-
edge in the room which in
Ausust 1964 was transformed
into the village library.
The move to establish a
public library was initiated in
November 1962 by the Amer-
ican Association of Universi-
ty Women's library commit-
tee. Money was raised;;; to
purchase reference books'gind
other books were collected
throughout the village.
In July 1963 the libr iy
was opened in the wom4Ws
locker room of the old coun-
try club. By the end of the
year, 332 family membership
cards had been issue Ntnd 1,-
915 of the collectio%;,fr300
books borrowed.
