A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF
NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, RECODING TO THE STATE
AND FEDERAL DEPARTMENTS OF TRANSPORTATION THAT AN
ALTERNATE ROUTE TO U.S. 1 BE PROVIDED THROUGH NORTHERN
PALM BEACH COUNTY TO PROTECT ROAD AND BOAT TRAFFIC
THAT INTERSECTS THE INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY WITH U.S. 1
AND THEREBY PROTECT THE LIVES, PROPERTY AND WELL BEING
OF RESIDENCES AND BUSINESSES ALONG'U.S. 1 IN NORTHERN
PALM BEACH COUNTY.
WHEREAS, U.S. 1 1n Northern Palm Beach County crosses
the Intracoastal Waterway with major draw bridges over the
Loxahatchee River in Jupiter and at Parker fridge in North Palm
Beach; and
WHEREAS, both of these crossovers intersect the
Intracoastal Waterway running from Florida through New Jersey;
and
WHEREAS, motor vehicle traffic On U.S. 1 at these,

locations and boat traffic on the Intracoastal Waterway at
these locations are extremely heavy, resulting in substantial
inconvenience to motorists along U.S. 1 and to boaters along
the Intracoastal Waterway at frequent intervals during every
day; and
WHEREAS, these lnordinate delays' create exceptional
discharges of exhaust fumes into the atmosphere from the backup
of automobiles for long periods of time, as well as boats;
interfere with the free flow of emergency vehicles along U.S. 1
to serve substantial numbers of residences and businesses,
including police, fire and ambulance equipmgnt; and hinder the
free passage of traffic for persons seeking to traverse the
area; and
WHEREAS, alternate route to direct traffic is

available which can avoid the Intracoastal Waterway bridges
referred to above and provide a safe and Convenient route for
automobile traffic, which would be in the best interests of the
health, welfare and the safety of motorists, as well as
residences and businesses, involved. ~
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE OOUNCIL OF NORTH PALM
BEACH, FIARIDA:
Section 1. The Village Council of North Palm Beach, Florida, urges the
' Departments of Transportation of the State of Florida and the United States, as
well as necessary legislative bodies concerned with traffic designations along
U. S. Highway 1 and State RAad 5 in Northern Palm Beach County, to designate as
an Alternate AlA route for motorists seeking to travel north and south betc~en
North Palm Beach and the Palm Beach-Martin County Line, the road lying between
the area north of the drawbridge across the Loxahatchee River on U. S. 1 in
Jupiter diverted west to cross the LoxahatChee River on the existing fixed-span
bridge, which route would stay on Alternate AlA until it intersects with
Northlake Boulevard. Said alternate route to U. S. 1 would utilize, to a
substantial extent, existing State Fnad AlA along established four-lane highways
with fixed bridges.
Section 2. Tne Village Clerk is hereby directed to send certified
copies of this Resolution to appropriate officials of the State and Federal
Departments of Transportation and to such legislative and administrative bodies
as is directed by either the Village Council or the Mayor.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect i:mediately upon
passage.
