NORTH PALM BEACH
Residents of North
Palm Beach can finally
tee it up again. After a
long wait, the North Palm
Beach Golf Course is re-
opening today, Nov. 17.
Renovations began
back in April, with Jack
Nicklaus overseeing the
design of the new course
himself.
Among the features
included in the new
course are: a brand new
irrigation system, new
fairways and greens, ele-
vation changes, bigger
lakes and new foliage,
including 36 oak trees
and 150 palm trees
spread out across the
course. These changes
should make the course
more exciting to play,
club officials said. There
will also be a lighted driv-
ing range for use at night.
The course has been
lengthened by approxi-
mately 600-700 yards,
and has a total,distance of
6,958 yards from the
black tees. Some holes
have been lengthened,
while others have not.
But the whole course is
definitely going to be
more challenging, some-
thing that North Palm
Beach residents are look-
ing forward to, said North
Palm Beach Village man-
ager Mark Bates.
"It's not going to be this
wide-open course any-
more. But residents are
viewing this as a chal-
lenge. The excitement
level around here is
tremendous," he said.
Although golf play
resumes today, the formal
grand opening will take
place in January, when
officials hope Nicklaus
will make an appearance.
