Eight-Mill Tax Levy Set for North PalmEight -Mill Tax Levy Set for North Palm NORTH PALM BEACH — After nearly two hours of dis- cussion, the Village Council last night adopted a budget calling for eight mills of taxation. The vote was 3-2 with councilmen H. Mallory Trivett and Ronald B. Cadby holding out to the end for 8.8 mills which would have raised about $65,000 more money. There was a difference of opinion on whether most of the additional money would be used to buy recreation land. Three persons in the audience favored the higher millage while three favored eight mills. Councilman Herb Watt called the higher millage "budget- ing for a dream" and said if recreation land becomes avail- able money can be found elsewhere to buy it. Watt, Mayor Tom Lewis and Vice Mayor Tom Bell voted for the lower millage. Eight mills will raise $651,560 and other sources will pro- vide $421,805 for village expenses for the year beginning Nov. 1. The new budget contains a pay raise from $15,500 to $17,000 for Village Manager Larry Robbins. The current tax rate is 9.5 mills but a lower rate was made necessary because assessed valuations of property have been raised in the last year. 4
