HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE SCULPTURE #I
Dead Trees Become Living Monuments
On January 21, 1994, an Arbor Day ceremony
held at Lakeside Park brought together
Councilman and former Mayor Judy M. Pierman
and residents Ray and Joyce Lilly. An idea was
conceived which soon became a reality ...dead
trees were turned into living monuments. Sam
Golden soon became part of the group. He
helped install the bronze plaques which have
donor names inscribed upon them.
From dead trees, the artists gave life to uniquely
sculpted aquatic creatures. Each carefully
crafted wood sculpture serves as a memorial to
those whose names are on the plaques.
On August 17, 1996, the occasion of its 40th
Birthday, the sculptures were dedicated to the
Village of North Palm Beach. Thanks to the
caring and nurturing of Ray and Joyce Lilly and
Sam Golden, the community will long be able to
enjoy the Lakeside Park sculptures.
