THE VILLAGE NEWSLETTER
APR I L 2 0 0 6
Village Manager's Message 841-3380
Mark Bates, Village Manager
mbates@village-npb. org
To help keep residents informed about our Village plans and
projects, I've prepared the following updates on a few of our
current projects...
The Village is actively working on the design and engineering
construction drawings for our new Public Safety sub -station.
This new sub -station will be located on property the Village
recently purchased from the Benjamin School... north of the
Parker Bridge on Carolinda Dr. and just west of US 1. The new
building's design and bidding is slated for late 2006 followed
by a 12-14 month construction period. Grand opening of our
new Village sub -station is planned for the winter of 2007.
Our Village recently applied for two State recreation grants
totaling $200,000 each for making improvements at Anchorage
Park. Our applications were ranked #10 and #I I in the entire
State... giving us a great likelihood for $400,000 in State rec-
reation funding! These grants require partnership with our Vil-
lage to "match" State funds — thus providing a total of $ 800,000
for Anchorage Park improvements during the coming year.
Senator Atwater is also assisting the Village in seeking separate
State funds for demolition and removal of the old water plant
located at Anchorage Park. This combination of State grants
and Senator Atwater's assistance will allow substantial im-
provement throughout Anchorage Park in the coming years.
The Village is currently selecting a Park Design / Engineering
firm to help develop a "master plan" for Anchorage Park im-
provements. This master plan will include design elements and
engineering drawings allowing our Village to implement im-
provements in discreet phases... as funds become available.
Annual repair and replacement of residential sidewalks through-
out the Village was again included in the Village budget. This
year's $80,000 for sidewalk repairs has already allowed work to
begin. Sidewalk repairs will continue for the next 3 months
throughout the Village. Street paving contractors will also con-
tinue our Village's $200,000 annual street re -paving program.
Areas slated for repaving this year include Robin Way, Pelican,
Osprey, Nighthawk, Shore, and the Dogwood areas... along
with the entire western area of Anchorage Drive - from Village
Hall around to the hotel at North Anchorage and US 1.
All the Best!
