The Village of North Palm Beach was incorporated on August 13, 1956.
Population
In. 1961, the construction of three churches began, and 244 homes were built. In. 1962,
the population of North Palm Beach hit 4,900. The total number of homes in North Palm
Beach in 1962 was 1,283. During that year, building official W.G. Carver announced
that fifty-three building permits were issued. According to our Village website, the
population is now 12,582. (This portion was written for the February 2012 Village

Village Manager
The first Village Manager to serve North Palm Beach was Albin R. Olson. He was our
Village Manager from 1957 to 1963.
St. Clare Catholic Church
This church was established in 1960, and it is the oldest church in North Palm Beach.
Until the building opened in 1969, Mass was held in private homes.
Sports—North Palm Beach .Little League
In July of 1961, the little league team was getting ready to meet Boynton Beach at 7:15
and play for the sub -district title, according to the article published in the Post. The
article states, "W inner plays the Broward-area champs Friday night at Lake Worth for a
berth in the state tourney next month in Jacksonville."
Team members included: Jim Houck, Mark Soverell, Bill Ferguson, Vern Monday,
Sonny Dean, Ricky Jenne, Kevin Griffin, Bob Trichler, Joel Rappaport, Joe Aloia, Greg
Wolfe, Chuck McBride, Bob Hilkers, Steve Higgins, manager Charles Brooks, and

Country Club
In 1961, the Village of North Palm Beach. bought 145 acres around the country club.
$400,000 was put toward building a new clubhouse, and a swimming pool. The new
building was opened in 1963.
The Library
In 1962, the American Association of University Women's library committee moved to
establish a library for North Palm Beach. Books were collected and reference material
was purchased. Volunteer workers and library society members made up the entire staff
for the first six months of the library's existence. 332 library cards were given out by the
end of 1963. In August of 1964, the dining room of the old country club (the Winter
Club) became the Village library. It wasn't until 1968 that plans were made for the
