25th Annual AAUW Benefit for the educational foundation 3-12-05Below is a wonderful poem Audrey Hepburn wrote when she was asked to share her
"beauty tips".
For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed,
and redeemed; never throw out anyone.
Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each
of your arms.
Ider, you will discover that you have two hands; one for helping
he other for helping others.

EXPLANATION OF THE AAUW
EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
The Educational Foundation, formed in 1958, is the world's largest source
of funding exclusively for graduate women. The Foundation's endowed
funds — the American, International and Selected Professions Fellowships,
Career Development and Community Action Grants — provide women with
financial support for individual research and formal academic pursuits
beyond a Bachelor's degree.
Community Action Grants provide seed money to individual AAUW
members, AAUW branches, and local community-based nonprofit
organizations for innovative programs or non -degree research projects
that promote education and equity for women and girls.
The Foundation's Eleanor Roosevelt Fund, started in 1988, provides
women public school teachers, grades K-12, with professional
development opportunities and support projects targeting areas of high
need for girls and teachers. Teachers working with underserved girls or
communities, technology education, and programs stimulating interest in
math, science and technology are, the primary focus of the fellowships. A
five-day teacher institute is held annually for teachers who have been
awarded Professional Developm1ant Grants.
In 2003-04 nearly 200 outstanding women were awarded these fellowship
and grants. Two of them are Floridians; one attends the University of
Florida and the other Florida State University. Preference is given to
women whose civic, community, or professional work shows a
commitment to advancing the lives of women and girls. The late Judith
Resnick, The Astronaut, is a former AAUW follow.
Your generous contributions will help enable a woman to pursue an
advanced degree that would not be possible without financial assistance.
"Education costs money, but then so does ignorance.,"
Sir Claus Moser
"Only the educated are free."
Epictetus
The American Association of University Women, founded in 1881
when popular wisdom held that higher education impaired women's
health, is now the nation's leading advocate for education and equity for
women and girls. In 1885 the founders conducted a study proving that
women are able to pursue higher education. In 1888 AAUW -founders
established the first fellowship for a graduate woman scholar. Ida Street
received $350 to pursue a graduate degree in education at the University
of Michigan when women's suffrage was still a generation away!
AAUW is a network of women and men dedicated to removing barriers
that block women from full equality. People join AAUW to create
opportunities for women and girls, take local and national level action on
vital social issues of the day, and develop life-long interests, leadership
skills, and friendships. AAUW has a long track record on crucial issues
affecting women and girls.
The membership works for change. We promote gender -fair classroom
practices, lobby local and national legislators on AAUW priority issues,
and mentor women and girls, We raise money for groundbreaking
research, community action projects, women scholars, and combating sex
discrimination on campus.
AAUW has 130,000 members in all 50 states. Florida has 5,000
members; most belong to local branches or chapters. The Noilhern Palm
Beach County Branch, formed 45 years ago, is an active group. We teach
Financial Independence to teenage girls, have adopted a class at a
Hispanic Human Resources Child Development Center, and raise money
for AAUWs Educational Foundation and Legal Advocacy Fund as well as
local scholarsh.ips.,
Membership information may be obtained from Diane Cochran (772/873-
1193) and Judy Pierman (561/626-6486).
We gratefully acknowledge the generosity of the following members
who provided or solicited prizes for our Opportunity Auction. Our

"My mother drew a distinction: between achievement and success. She said that
achievement is the knowledge that you have studied and worked hard and done the
best that is in you. Success is being praised by tethers, and that's nice, too, but not as
important or scatisfying. Always aim for achievement and forget about suet-ess.r,
