Dear AAUW Members and Friends of AAUW-,
In the Spring of 1985, the North Palm
Beach Branch embarked on its most ambitious
undertaking to date when it established the
THELMA OBERT RESEARCH AND PROJECTS ENDOW-
MENT. The Endowment is named for one of our
Branch founders, THELMA OBERT.
Thelma is a great inspiration to all in
our Branch. She was the second president of
our group and has served on the board almost
continuously since the Branch founding in
1959. We value her fresh and forward think-
ing, her steady support and guidance, and
above all her friendship. It seemed only
fitting that we should honor Thelma with an
endowment named for her.
Thelma has made it a personal goal to
see the endowment completely funded in her
lifetime. Research and Projects Endowment
must reach thirty-five thousand dollars in
fifteen years to become stipend bearing
With your assistance at this 1992 fund
raiser, that goal has been realized. We
won't "Keep it under our Hat"' any longer,
but announce 'HATS OFF TO THELMA" and `HATS
OFF TO YOU" for pushing us to our goal with
your contributions to 'THELMA' S F °

ABOUT AAUW
The American Association of University Women is the oldest and
largest organization for women in the United States. Founded in
1881 with over 190,000 members, AAUW is dedicated to the
advancement of women, promotion of lifelong learning, and
implementation of positive societal and community changes.
Locally, the North Palm Beach Branch is an active organization,
formed over thirty years ago with a membership of one hundred
and growing. Monthly general meetings are held on the third
Monday of each month at 8:00 P.M. with programs of current
interest. Most general meetings are held at the North Palm Beach
Library.
Special interest groups meet monthly on various topics, such as
International Relations, Women in Literature, Art At Tea Time,
Travel and Supper Club.
Interested women with degrees from accredited colleges and
universities may either obtain activity or membership information
from Sally Bailey 845-7189 or Dolores Yeaw at 844-6829.
AAUW provides the opportunity to use education to make a
difference.

AAUW EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
This is the single most effective way to support the world's most
promising women.
The AAUW Educational Foundation is dedicated to advancing educa-
tion, research, the self -development of women and girls, and the
promotion of social change through fellowships, grants, special awards,
conferences, and special research programs. It was the first and is the
largest organization of its kind. Since 1888, the Foundation has awarded
over 5,000 fellowships and research grants to deserving scholars. The
Foundation actively recruits minority women for all of its fellowship
programs.
The significance of the Foundation's impact is reflected in the diversity
of its former fellows: the late Dr. Judith Resnik, NASA astronaut, 1975-
76; Susan Sontag, writer and educator, 1957-58,; Dr. Jenny Bramley,
physicist, 1935; Patricia Bell -Scott, educator and editor, 1984-85;
Hanna Holborn Gray, university president, 1954-55; Christine Lilyquist,
museum curator, 1969; Manna Nunez del Prado, sculptress, 1940; Ines
Durana, healthcare administrator, 1969; and Ebudane Adegbuyi,
agronomist, 1985-85.
Because of the efforts of our members and friends, the world is a better
place this year.
