ABOUT AAUW
The American Association of University Women is the oldest and
largest organization for women in the United States. Founded in
1881 with over 190,000 members, AAUW is dedicated to the
advancement of women, promotion of lifelong learning, and
implementation of positive societal and community changes.
Locally, the North Palm Beach Branch is an active organization,
formed over thirty years ago with a membership of one hundred
and growing. Monthly general meetings are held on the third
Monday of each month at 8:00 P.M. with programs of current
interest. Most general meetings are held at the North Palm Beach
Library.
Special interest groups meet monthly on various topics, such as
International Relations, Women in Literature, Art At Tea Time
and Supper Club.
Interested women with degrees from accredited colleges and
universities may either obtain activity or membership information
from Marion Knapp at 575-4779 or Sally Bailey at 845-7189.
AAUW provides the opportunity to use education to make a
difference.

AAUW EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
This is the single most effective way to support the world's most
promising women.
The AAUW Educational Foundation is dedicated to advancing educa-
tion, research, the self -development of women and girls, and the
promotion of social change through fellowships, grants, special awards,
conferences, and special research programs. It was the first and is the
largest organization of its kind. Since 188 8, the Foundation has awarded
over 5,000 fellowships and research grants to deserving scholars. The
Foundation actively recruits minority women for all of its fellowship
programs.
The significance of the Foundation's impact is reflected in the diversity
of its former fellows: the late Dr. Judith Resnik, NASA astronaut, 1975-
76; Susan Sontag, writer and educator, 1957-58; Dr. Jenny Bramley,
physicist, 1935; Patricia Bell -Scott, educator and editor, 1984-85;
Hanna Holborn Gray, university president, 1954-55; Christine Lilyquist,
museum curator, 1969; Marina Nunez del Prado, sculptress, 1940; Ines
Durana, healthcare administrator, 1969; and Ebudane Adegbuyi,
agronomist, 1985-85.
Because of the efforts of our members and friends, the world is a better
place this year.
