A FOUNDATION
FOR THE FUTURE
This is the single most effective way to
support the world's most promising
women.
The AAUW Educational Foundation is dedicated to advanc-
ing education, research, the self -development of women and girls
and the promotion of social change through fellowships, grants,
special awards, conferences, and special research programs. It was
the first and is the largest organization of its kind. Since 1888, the
Foundation has awarded over 5,000 fellowships. In recent years, it
has awarded over $1 million annually in fellowships and research
grants to deserving scholars. The Foundation actively recruits
minority women for all of its fellowship programs.
The significance of the Foundation's impact is reflected in the
diversity of its former fellows: the late Dr. Judith Resnik, NASA
astronaut, 1975 -76; Susan Sontag, writer and educator, 1957-58;
Dr. Jenny Bramley, physicist, 1935; Patricia Bell -Scott, educator
and editor, 1984-85; Hanna Holborn Gray, university president,
1954-55; Christine Lilyquist, museum curator, 1969; Marina
Nunez del Prado, sculptress, 1940; Ines Durana, healthcare admin-
istrator, 1969; and Ebunade Adegbuyi, agronomist, 1984-85.
Because of the efforts of our members and friends, the world is
a better place this year.

Research and Conferences

ceedings and findings are made available to AAUW members
and the general public.
The Eleanor Roosevelt Fund for Women and Girls
Established in early 1988, the Eleanor Roosevelt Fund for
Women and Girls: Intergenerational Partnerships will support
research and action programs designed to eliminate barriers to
women and girls in education; to foster programs that support
diversity across race, culture, age and gender, and to understand „ p
the ways that women and girls think work and play.
The fund's mission is to address critical issues facing women .R=
and girls in the 21st century. In its first years, the fund will sup -
rt action -oriented research and fellowships for elementary

and secondary school teachers who will initiate changes in►
teaching that will strengthen mathematics and science education 4
for irls. Later the fund will offer support for action projects

The AAUW Educational
Foundation's distinguished
tradition of support is
maintained predominantly
through contributions from
AAUW members and the
fundraising efforts of the
Association's branches and
divisions. Significant contri-
butions from corporate and
foundation sources also
support the Foundation's
mission.
