A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH,
FLORIDA, URGING THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PALM BI:AC}[
COUNTY TO PURCHASE T}{F. OCEANFRONT PROPERTY IN T}{E VILLAGE OF NORTII
YAL.M BEAC}{ ][ELD BY THE JOHN D. MAC ARTHUR ESTATE DESIGNATED AS
' "AlR FORCE, BF.AC}[" FROM ITS BEACHES AND PARKS ACQUISITION AND MAIN-
TI:NANCF, BOND ISSUE, FUNDS.
WHERF;AS, the beaches of Palm Beach County are a very
valuable resource and play a significant role in the life and well-
being of the County's residents; and
WHEREAS, the beaches are the County's number one recre-
ational asset i.n that people of all ages gain immense satisfaction
from using them or from just observing their natural beauty; and
W1[ERF,AS, the beaches and sand dunes protect the island
areas by forming a natural barrier against the possibility of flood-
ing during periods of inclement weather such as hurricanes and
severe storms; and
WHCREAS, in effect, that aesthetically pleasing beaches
and dunes safeguard much of the urbanized costal strip from a
possible serious disruption to the normal daily routine of a large
se~nent of the population; and
WI{EREAS, by state law, the public owns forty-five miles of
ocean beaches east oi' the average mean high water line; and
WIIF,REAS, in the North County Area there is need for more
open space recreational parks; and
WHF;REAS, for the benefit of all North County residents,
the oceanfront properties in the North County Area, to the maximum
possible extent, should be kept in a public ownership; and
' WHEREAS, the present public beaches in the North County
Area are inadequate to accommodate the residents residing therein
and others who enjoy the use of such public facilities; and
W}{F,REAS, the residents of North Palm Beach have no public
beach facilities; and
WHF.RF,AS, there is at this time available for the ocean-
i'ront acquisition a parcel of land held by the John ll. MacArthur
Estate, designated as "Air Force Beach", approximately 8,390 feet
oi' ocean frontage, by 1,000 feet deep to AlA, and the islands
and the uplands lying east of the western boundaries of Lake Worth
situated in the Village of North Palm Beach;
' NOW, THF,RF.FORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF
NORTIi PALM BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the Village Council of North Palm Beach
strongly urges the Board of Commissioners of Palm Beach County to
purchase the oceanfront property in the Village of North Palm };each
held by the John D. MacArthur Estate and designated as "Air Force
Beach" plus the islands and the uplands lying east of the western
boundaries of Lake Worth situated in the Village of North Palm };each
from its Beaches and Parks Acquisition and Maintenance Bond Issue
funds for use as a public beach facility.
Section 2. The Village Clerk is hereby directed to furnish
' a certified copy of this Resolution to the Board of Commissioners
of Yalm Beach County, the Mayor of Riviera Beach and the President
and City Council of Riviera Beach.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect i.mmedi.ately
upon passage.
