A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH,
FLORIDA, REQUESTING ALL APPLICABLE STATE AND FEDERAL AUTHORITIES,
INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD, STATE ROAD
DEPARTMENT OR THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, AND THE NAVIGATION DISTRICT,
ET AL. TO SCHEDULE THE OPENINGS OF PARKER BRIDGE ON U. S. HIGHWAY N0. 1
AT THE INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY IN NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA, SO AS TO
EQUITABLY BALANCE THE NEEDS OF THE BRIDGE FOR VEHICULAR AND PEDESTRIAN
TRAFFIC WIT}{ THE NEEDS OF THOSE PERSONS USING THE WATERWAY BELOW THE BRIDGE.
WHEREAS, the Intracoastal Waterway crosses U. S. Highway
No, 1 in the Village of North Palm Beach at the Parker Bridge, and
WHEREAS, the height of the Parker Bridge is such that it must
be opened for a substantial number of boats crossing below it, thereby
stopping both vehicular and pedestrian traffic on U. S. Highway No. 1
to the Village of North Palm Beach, and
WHEREAS, the traffic on U. S. Highway No. 1 at that location
' in North Palm Beach is extremely heavy and the frequency of the opening
of the Parker Bridge is such as to inordinately delay and harass the
motorists using U. S. Highway No. 1, and
WHEREAS, a substantial number of businesses and residents in
the Village of North Palm Beach who are located north of Parker Bridge,
while the firefighting equipment, police equipment, rescue equipment and
ambulance equipment of the Village of North Palm Beach are located south
of the Parker Bridge thereby creating a hazard to life and property of
those persons and businesses located north of the Parker Bridge in the event
of fire, police emergency, rescue or ambulance emergency due to the unusual
frequency of the Parker Bridge openings,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF
' NORTI} PALM BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That all federal and state authorities which are
able to schedule the openings of the Parker Bridge on U. S. Highway No. 1
at the Intracoastal Waterway in the Village of North Palm Beach are
hereby requested to limit the openings of said bridge in the interests
of the health, safety and welfare of the traveling public, both vehicular
and pedestrian, in accordance with the schedule, Exhibit "A", attached
hereto.
Section 2. The Village Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this Resolution and Exhibit "A" to the United States Coast
Guard, the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Florida Inland Navi-
gation District, Department of Transportation, Congressman Paul Rogers,
and any other agencies, authorities or parties made known to the Village
Clerk who may be able to exercise authority regarding the openings of
Parker Bridge.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon passage.

EXHIBIT "A"
Openings of the Parker Bridge at U. S. Highway #1 and the Intracoastal
Waterway shall be as follows:
1. From 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., inclusive, on all days,
every half-hour on the hour and half-hour.
2. At times other than between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.,
upon demand.
