1972-04 Requesting the FDOT to Request an Environmental Impact Study before Construction of a BridgeRESOLUTION N0. 4-72 A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIllA, REQUESTING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO REQUEST AN ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STUDY BEFORE CONSTRUCTION OF A BRIDGE FROM RIVIERA BEACH TO SINGER ISLAND, AND PROPOSING THE CONSTRUCTION OF A 35 FOOT BASCULE BRIDGE RATHER THAN THE PROPOSED 65 FOOT FIXED SPAN BRIDGE.. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Section 1. The Village Council of North Palm Beach, Florida hereby respectfully requests the State of Florida Department of Trans- portation to request an environmental impact study on the proposed 65 foot fixed span bridge contemplated to be constructed from the mainland in Riviera Beach to Singer Island. The impact study should compare the 65 foot fixed span bridge to a 35 foot bascule type bridge. ' Section 2. Pending the study of the impact on the environ- ment from construction of such bridge, the Department of Transportation is requested to not proceed on completing either the bridge design or any of the construction for a 65 foot fixed span bridge, but to consider instead the 35 foot bascule type bridge. Section 3. Among the additional information which should be considered prior to final design and construction of a bridge is the effect of the proposed extensive dredging and filling in Lake Worth, both for beach and approach purposes, the length, design and degree of ascent to the bridge from the mainland, and the effects on tide and existing channels from both the bridge and the fill to be done near the bridge. ' Section 4. The Village Council of North Palm Beach, Florida does not oppose the construction of abridge to Singer Island in this general location, which would provide access to land in the Village of North Palm Beach on Singer Island, but the Village Council is greatly concerned with the environmental effect both in the vicinity of the bridge and within the municipal boundaries of the Village, as well as with the use by automobile and boat owners and the waterway beneath the bridge. Section 5. The Village Clerk is hereby directed to forward ' a certified copy of this Resolution to the State of Florida Department of Transportation and to other interested governmental agencies.
