A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA,
REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO
LOWER THE SPEED LIMIT ON U. S. HIGHWAY #1 TO FORTY FIVE MILES PER }{OUR,
AND TO EXPEDITE APPROVAL OF SIGNALIZATION PERMITS.
WHEREAS, U. S. Highway #1 is a heavily traveled highway through
t}ie heart of the Village of North Palm Beach commercial area; and
WHEREAS, U. S. Highway #1 in the Vila ge of North Palm Beach
has a number of intersections with streets to residential areas which
are heavily traveled by Village residents; and
WHEREAS, there is an inordinate number of accidents and in-
juries to Village residents and others traveling on U. S. Highway #1
because of the high speed limit permitted on said highway; and
WHEREAS, it is essential for the health and safety of residents,
school children and other travelers on U. S. Highway #1 that the rate
of speed be effectively controlled;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF NORTi{
PALM BEACH, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Department of Transportation of the State of
Florida is hereby requested to lower the speed limit on U. S. }Iighway
#1 to forty five miles per hour and to erect appropriate signs advising
the public thereof.
Section 2. The Department of Transportation is hereby further
requested to expedite approval of signalization permits for U. S. Highway
#l.
