OF THE

HELD THURSDAY, JUNE 26, 1997
Present: Gail H. Vastola, Mayor
Charles O'Meilia, Vice Mayor
Larry Kelley, President Pro Tem
Tom Valente, Councilman
David Norris, Councilman
Dennis W. Kelly, Village Manager
George W. Baldwin, Village Attorney
Kathleen F. Kelly, Village Clerk
ROLL CALL
Mayor Vastola called the meeting to order at 7:11 p.m. All members of Council were
present. All members of staff were present.
The purpose of the scheduled Public Hearing was to hear comments from the Public
concerning Bill 880, a proposed ordinance rezoning a parcel of land located on the east
side of U. S. Highway One south of Ebbtide Drive from CB, Commercial District, to P,
Public District.
Attorney Larry Smith of Gary, Dytrych & Ryan Law firm in North Palm Beach, spoke on
behalf of several homeowners in Mariners Key. Mr. Smith stated that it would make
sense to parallel the rezoning with the site plan review of the proposed Public Safety
building, as it would provide a "comfort level" for some of the neighbors. Mr. Smith
explained that it would give the neighbors assurance that a Public Safety building is going
to be built there, as opposed to some other public facility that might be allowed by the
zoning code; and if for some reason the Public Safety building does not come to pass,
the property would have already been "downzoned" and would make the property more
difficult to sell. Mr. Smith asked that the Council consider slowing the rezoning effort so
that it matches the site plan review process.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business to come before the Council, the meeting adjourned at 7:18 p.m.
