Letter from Village Manager Jim Kelly
Dear Residents,
First, Happy Father’s Day to all “Dads”. Isn’t it funny that
no matter how old our children get, they are still our
“children”. We still celebrate their accomplishments,
comfort them in their time of need, and enjoy their hugs
and laughter!
Since last June, we have developed a draft of our Village
Master Plan, hired an architect for our Clubhouse, created
concept renderings of our future Clubhouse, and released
an RFP seeking potential vendors to operate our
Restaurant and Banquet Facilities for the new Clubhouse.
Please keep an eye on our website, www.village-npb.org to
get updates on our progress.
One last thing, June starts hurricane season, so please take the time to prepare.
Sincerely,
Jim Kelly

Hurricane Preparedness

What is the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)?
The NFIP is a Federal program enabling property owners in participating communities to
purchase insurance protection against losses from flooding. This insurance is designed
to provide an insurance alternative to disaster assistance to meet the escalating costs of
repairing damage to buildings and their contents caused by floods. Participation in the
NFIP is based on an agreement between local communities and the Federal
Government that states if a community will adopt and enforce a floodplain management
ordinance to reduce future flood risks to new construction in Special Flood Hazard
Areas, the Federal Government will make flood insurance available
within the community as a financial protection against flood losses. The Village of North
Palm Beach participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which makes
federally backed flood insurance available for all eligible buildings, whether they are in a
floodplain or not.
What Flood Zone Is My Property In?
The Village Library and Community Development Department maintain a complete
section that has information covering all areas of flood protection, building construction
and flood insurance. Flood zone maps are available for inspection also. If you need to
know what flood zone your home is in or obtain a copy of an elevation certificate (If on
file), please call the Community Development Department, Village Planner at
561-882-1156, Email: jnentwick@village-npb.org or go to www.floodsmart.gov.
What Should I Know When Preparing My House For Hurricane Season?
The Village Council passed an Ordinance in 2009 which includes an amendment to
section 14 - 31, limiting the amount of yard waste the Village will remove from a
residential property on any scheduled yard waste collection day. Branches, tree limbs,
shrub clippings, and palm fronds shall be limited to one pile not exceeding 8
cubic yards, measuring approximately 4 feet wide by 15 feet long by 4 feet tall. If
yard waste placed for collection exceeds the allowable limit, property owners shall be
required to pay the costs associated with removal. Remember, any person, group of
persons, corporation or other entity paid a fee to perform tree trimming or landscape
maintenance shall be required to remove all yard waste generated by such activities . To
learn more about the Village Code of Ordinances please visit www.village-npb.org or
call 561-691-3440.
No property owner shall generate yard waste for collection once any portion of
the Village has been placed under a hurricane or tropical storm watch or warning
by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA).

.In recent months there has been an increase in calls to the
police regarding suspicious telephone calls that are received
from an entity posing as the I.R.S. The telephone calls usually
reference that you the taxpayer owes back taxes and if you do
not pay immediately they will issue an arrest warrant. This tac-
tic is used to frighten residents into giving up valuable personal
and financial information. These calls are not uncommon
throughout the year however they appear to increase dramati-
cally around tax season. The North Palm Beach police depart-
ment would like to take the opportunity to inform its citizens of
these calls and what signs to look for before you hand over
your information and any monies. First, it is important to know
that the I.R.S. never asks for credit card, debit card, or prepaid
card information over the telephone. Second, the I.R.S. never
insists that taxpayers use a specific payment method to satisfy
tax obligations. Third, the I.R.S. never requests immediate pay-
ment over the phone and will not take enforcement action im-
mediately following a telephone conversation. These scam-
mers pose as I.R.S. employees and will offer fake badge and
identification numbers when you request it. The telephone
numbers that the scammers are calling from may appear to be
legitimate when in fact they are not. If you feel that you may
have been targeted by one of these scammers you can report
it to the I.R.S. directly and to the Treasury Inspector General
for Tax Administration at 1-800-366-4484.
