2016-04 Village NewsletterAPRIL 2016
NPB Library
Dedication in 1969
Dear Residents,
We invite you to celebrate the Village's 60th Anniversary by
attending the Heritage Festival and Parade on Saturday, April 2nd,
at Anchorage Park! Staff has worked diligently to make this
special event a meaningful and fun - filled occasion featuring a
Business Expo, live bands, carnival rides and games, concession
booths and so much more. Plus, the Heritage Parade is bigger
and better this year, showcasing bands, civic groups, clubs and
organizations from the surrounding community. PLEASE COME
OUT AND ENJOY THIS SPECIAL DAY!
As the Village "turns" 60 years old, this is a perfect opportunity to
reflect on where we've been, where we are now and where we
want to go. The Village Council needs and welcomes your input
and involvement as they consider major issues, such as the new
clubhouse facility, the Master Plan, boat and RV storage, etc.
Many of you have exercised your civic duty by attending public
meetings and Council workshops which provide insight into the
thought processes that influence and shape Council decisions. I
am hopeful that you will encourage your friends and neighbors to become more active so that they
too can experience firsthand the benefits of engagement and of voicing their opinions on matters
concerning where they live and work and play. You CAN make a difference!
Also please note that tentative workshop topics for April include the Country Club, the capital
budget and Village sanitation services. Please keep in mind that workshops are simply an
opportunity for the council to examine various issues in -depth so that they may give guidance to
staff regarding future action(s) to take, if necessary. There is no vote at a workshop. Check our
website (www.village- npb.org) for actual dates and locations.
I look forward to seeing you at our Heritage Festival and Parade!
Sincerely,
fm 5

Library Director Betty Sammis Retiring
Library Director Betty Sammis has announced her
retirement from the Village of North Palm Beach.
Her last day will be April 15th.
Betty has worked for the Library for the past seven
years, is a resident of North Palm Beach. Her hus-
band, Paul, has served on the Waterways Board.
Betty will surely be missed as she loved the library
and making award winning - floats for the Heritage
Day Parade. She was involved in many community
and employee events. Her laughter and love of
books was evident wherever she went.
Betty, her husband and her pets will be moving to
their cabin in the mountains of Georgia. Please stop
by the Library to wish her well in her retirement!

gentleman in the picture was the factory technician sent with the engine to

was state -of- the -art for small suburban fire,
departments of the day, built on a commercial;

cab and the rest of the crew rode standing on the

As we get closer to the warmer months, for some that means vacations are on
the horizon. The North Palm Beach Police Department would like to remind resi-
dents that when preparing to go out of town on vacation it is important that you
take necessary steps to safeguard your homes and vehicles from potential bur-
glars. If you will be out of town for an extended period of time, make sure that all
vehicles are secured inside a closed garage when possible. Vehicles may be
placed in a location to provide the appearance that you are home if the garage is
_ unavailable. Remember to lock all windows and doors and remove all valuables.
I
F. T, I !1M
To safeguard your homes, make sure that any exterior lighting is operational )
overnight. All exterior doors and windows are must be closed and locked. If your
home is equipped with an alarm system, check to make sure it is operating properly prior to setting it.
Ask a friend or neighbor to look after your home while you are away and have them periodically check
the property to make sure that everything is in order. You can provide specific dates to the post office
,to suspend mail delivery until your return. Burglars will often look to see a collection of mail and /or
packages are at the front door and use that as an indicator that the resident is away and the house is
an easy target for a burglary. The North Palm Beach Police Department strongly encourages residents I
to complete a Vacation House Watch form. This program is a free service to all village businesses and
residents. The form can be accessed on our website and is also provided for your convenience in the
lobby.

Heritage Day is Saturday, April 2nd
Taylor Norris is our hometown girl! Born and raised
in North Palm Beach, Taylor grew up taking ballet,
tap, and jazz lessons. She began singing in 5th
grade and has been performing around the area
ever since. She graduated from Palm Beach
Gardens High School and went on to attend the
University of Florida for undergraduate and law
school. Since passing the FL Bar last year, Taylor
has been pursuing her musical dreams with
performances at local venues and at the 2016
Honda Classic. She plans on moving to Nashville
by the end of the year.

Heritage Parade: Parade will start at 11:00. It travels from Village Hall - north on Eastwind Dr. to Lighthouse - Light-
house to Anchorage - ending at Anchorage Park. It features marching bands, local clubs, businesses /organizations and
a few surprises! You can watch the parade from anywhere along this route but be in place prior to 11:00 as the roads will
close. Call the Recreation Dept. at 561- 841 -3386 for more information or visit the recreation pages of
npb.orq.
Bicycle Brigade — the tradition continues! The North Palm Beach Yacht Club will continue a tradition that it began in the
year 2000 by awarding $250 in cash prizes to the top three best - decorated bicycles in the annual parade! Children 12
years of age and under are invited to decorate their bikes and fall in behind the Yacht Club float as it makes its way along
the parade route. Parents can join in, but the prizes are for the kids! Prizes will be awarded in Anchorage Park following
the parade. The winner will receive $125; second place finisher gets $75, and third place will win $50. Originality and ap-
pearance count, but the highest marks go to the "Brigaders" who do their own work, without Mom and Dad's help. It's a
fun contest for everyone. We invite clubs, businesses, organizations, etc to participate in the 1 mile parade! Contact the
Rec Dept. for your application and more information. 561 - 841 -3386.
