POLICE AND FIRE PENSION PLAN AMENDMENT
Attorney Bonni Jensen of the Law Offices of Perry & Jensen, LLC, reviewed a proposed
amendment to Chapter 2, "Administration," of Article V, "Pension and Certain Other Benefits
for Fire and Police Employees," of the Village Code of Ordinances to clarify the normal
retirement benefit and to allow for the re- examination of disability retirees.
Discussion ensued on the two provisions. Regarding the re- examination of disability retirees,
Ms. Jensen noted the change is from mandatory to discretionary, and explained the Board of Trustees
would decide whether re- examination was necessary, based on a set of policies to be developed.
Council indicated it would prefer to see the policy before amending the Code. Ms. Jensen
advised that the Police and Fire Pension Board of Trustees would meet in August.
This item will be brought back for Council consideration after the August Pension Board meeting.
ZONING CODE AMENDMENT — PARKING SPACE REQUIREMENTS
Discussion was held concerning a proposed amendment to Chapter 45, "Zoning," of the Village
Code of Ordinances to reduce the minimum size for off - street parking spaces within residential
and commercial districts from 200 square feet to at least (162 square feet) in accordance with
standards adopted by other local governments and common planning practices.
Mr. Huff discussed the need for the amendment, which would benefit businesses and property
owners, particularly within the Northlake Boulevard Overlay Zoning District (NBOZ).
This item will be placed on an upcoming Regular Session agenda to consider the proposed
ordinance on first reading.
