Community
Veterans Park
We are fast-approaching our second annual Veterans
Day Ceremony in Veterans Memorial Park! The park is
located adjacent to the Village of North Palm Beach
Library.
Last year’s inaugural Veterans Day Ceremony had over
three hundred in attendance. The park is made up of
various trees, benches and bricks that the public may
purchase to honor their loved ones and veterans.
In order to ensure the engraved bricks will arrive in time
for Veterans Day, please place your order no later than
September 15th. Order forms may be obtained by
calling the Village Manager’s office at 561-904-2122, or
on the website www.village-npb.org.
Sec. 6-114. Permitted temporary signs
(D) Removal of temporary signs.
(1) Any temporary sign located within a public
right-of-way or otherwise not complying with
the requirements of this section is subject to
immediate removal and disposal by the
village.
(2) Temporary signs shall be removed within
twenty-four (24) hours of the issuance of a
hurricane warning for the village by the
national hurricane center of the national
oceanic and atmospheric association
(NOAA).

Fire/Police
The North Palm Beach Police
Department is hosting
National Night Out on
Tuesday, August 5, 2014
from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in
Anchorage Park. This event
is held to encourage and
celebrate neighbors uniting to
fight back against crime.
This is a great way for
residents to get to know each
other and for children to have
fun. Bring the whole family
and enjoy music, Police
demonstrations, FREE child fingerprinting and a kids'
fun area with bounce houses.
Don’t forget we will have plenty of food, games and
prizes with a guest appearance by McGruff the crime
dog. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime
and drug prevention awareness; generate support and
participation in local anti-crime efforts; and strengthen
neighborhood spirit and police community relations.
Join us this year at An-
chorage Park to send a
message to criminals
letting them know that
the neighborhoods in
North Palm Beach are
organized and fighting
back!
NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2014
According to CPSC (Consumer Product Safety
Commission) more than 215,500 children receive
treatment in hospital emergency rooms for play-
ground-related injuries every year. One quarter of
these injuries occur on home playgrounds.
The National Program for Playground Safety of-
fers ways you can make America's playgrounds
safer:
1. Make sure adult supervision is present at the
playground. It is estimated that more than 40 percent
of playground injuries may be in some way related to
inadequate supervision. Children should always be
observed when playing on playground equipment.
Adults need to watch for potential hazards, observe
children playing, intercede and facilitate play when
necessary and be available in case an injury occurs.
2. Guide children to play on age-appropriate
equipment. Children are developmentally different.
Therefore, equipment designed for children ages 5 to
12 is too big for children ages 2 to 5. Different playing
areas for each of the age groups should be available
and children should only play on age-appropriate
equipment .
3. Survey the play area and make sure it is free of
apparent hazards. When visiting a play area, first
visually survey the area and check to see that there
are no apparent immediate hazards. Hazards range
from broken glass or metal pieces lying around to
playground design that creates congestion among the
play equipment where children could collide or fall on
each other. If the area is near a street or parking lot,
make sure there is fencing to prevent the children from
running in front of cars. Look for signs designating the
separate play areas for 2 to 5 and 5 to 12 year olds.
Be sure that metal equipment is in shaded areas or
has a protective surface to prevent burns. Wearing of
helmets, necklaces, purses, scarves or clothing with
drawstrings should not be permitted while on the play-
ground.
4. Check the playground surface for cushioned
surfacing beneath equipment and its fall areas.
Falls to surfaces are responsible for more than 70
percent of the injuries sustained on playgrounds. Im-
proper surfacing is the leading cause of many of
those injuries. Hard surfaces such as asphalt, black-
top, concrete, grass, packed dirt or rocks should not
be used. A fall to those surfaces could be life threat-
ening. Acceptable surfaces include hardwood fiber/
mulch, pea gravel and sand. Surfaces should be
maintained to a depth proportionate to the height of
equipment.

Raise your hand if you want to hit the ball shorter off the tee. I didn’t think so. The facts are that the
quickest way to add distance to the tee ball is by hitting it out of the center of the clubface. Additionally,
if we can improve launch conditions (having the right amount of launch angle and spin) we will be even
closer to achieving our maximum distance. Here are a few things you can do to improve in these two
areas.
Contact
An area that most golfers can improve is with their balance throughout the swing. Try making practice
swings until you are able to hold your finish for three seconds. Then try the same thing while hitting a
ball. Feel free to swing as hard as you like as long as you finish in a balanced finish position.
Launch Conditions
Launch angle (the angle in which the ball takes off) and spin (the amount of backspin the golf ball has)
are two factors that will determine if you are maximizing your distance. As a reference, here are a few
examples of different launch conditions and what type of distance they yield.
Club Speed Launch Angle Spin Total Distance
75 mph 14.6 degrees 3,720 rpm 178 yards
75 mph 19.2 degrees 2,720 rpm 199 yards
90 mph 11.1 degrees 3,690 rpm 226 yards
90 mph 16.4 degrees 2,630 rpm 250 yards
A quick glance at these numbers shows us that a higher launch angle with less spin results in more dis-
tance. In order to achieve this we will want to be hitting up on the golf ball and preferably with a straight
to draw curve on the golf ball. Also don’t forget to be properly fit for your clubs by one of our on-site
PGA Professionals using our Track Man launch monitor. So if you are interested in hitting it longer, try
improving your balance and launch conditions.
