11-2012 NewsletterNORTH PALM BEACHNORTH PALM BEACH NOVEMBER 2012NOVEMBER 2012 The Village Of The Village Of “The Best Place to Live Under the Sun” “The Best Place to Live Under the Sun” Pg. 2—Village Manager / Community News Village Manager / Community News A Message from the Village Manager 561-841-3380 Dear Residents of North Palm Beach, The Veteran’s Memorial I promised you as my Eagle Project will be complete by the Veterans Day ceremony that the Village will hold on Monday, November 12th. I would like to thank all of you who contributed towards making this dream of mine a reality. Thanks to your assistance, there will always be a statue to honor and remember the ones who served and the ones who did not come home. The ones who gave everything in the name of freedom and the ones who went to hell and back to stop tyranny where it stood and ended up carrying more horrible things then a rucksack and a gun. None of this could have happened without the amazing people that live in North Palm Beach. A helmet, a rifle, a pair of boots, and the words, “All gave some, some gave all” will be forever in your town. Even though the metal may not stand forever, but the thought of what you citizens did will. The reason I did this was so people will always remember and honor what some people did for our Country. All of you have become a part of this ever since your Council allowed my project and I am forever grateful to you for helping me honor all who served. “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few” Winston Churchill. Thank You, Kyle Malone I n either late October or early November we plan to have a work session with the Council to discuss future improvements for Anchorage Park. As you know, Anchorage Park has many facets to it; serving as a gathering place for both indoor and outdoor recreation activities and for storing and launching boats owned by our residents. Over time, we have come to realize that the storage area was inadequate to meet current resident needs. For one thing, boats have gotten a lot bigger over the past few decades and the 15, 20, and 25 foot storage slots just don’t make much sense anymore. Also, because we have invested so much in beautifying the park as well as upgrading the facil- ities in the park, it makes sense to make the storage area more attractive and functional as well. To that end, staff has been working with the recreation board to develop a new concept for the layout of the park. Also, we commissioned the efforts of a landscape designer, to put together a concept for the relationship between park and boat storage. We also spent a great deal of time evaluating the current needs of our residents with respect to boat, trailer, and RV storage. We have attempted to call every resident who had been put on the waiting list for a storage area to determine if they were still interested in a storage location and the size of the storage area they would require. It became clear to us that no matter how large we made the storage area, we could not accommodate all the storage needs at Anchorage Park. That led us to look elsewhere for storage of smaller items currently residing at Anchorage. We have located a couple parcels of land in or adjacent to the Village that we could use to permanently store boat trailers, utility trailers, and small boats. Our plan is to obtain one of these parcels on a permanent basis, completely enclose with suitable fencing, place a hard surface down as road base, and construct security posts at every storage slot. We will assure easy access and the price to store is going to be very attractive (roughly a third of what it is to store trailers and small boats now). By moving these smaller items to the alternate location and by restructuring the existing space, we believe we can accommodate all current needs, both active and those on the waiting list. There will be some movement of open space in Anchorage Park to make way for the additional boat storage. Two volleyball pits will need to be moved and, unfortunately, we will have to sacrifice the small baseball field. However, the large baseball field and all the other amenities will be preserved. We are in process of obtaining an additional grant for this work. We expect to receive a total of $400,000 in grant money for this project. The rest will come from reserves programmed for capital improvement projects. This is a long term project with several milestones that will take at least 18 months to complete. However, our hope is to have this blending of both park and boat storage improvements in place by the end of 2014. www.village-npb.org Village Clerk AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service, is seeking volunteers to help taxpayers who are seeking assistance preparing and filing their 2012 tax returns.
