Please join us in welcoming Ed Green, new Village Manager for the Village of North Palm
Beach. Ed Green grew up in Englewood Colorado, attended Englewood High School and went
on to attend both the University of Colorado (B.S. Business) and Colorado State University
(MBA). Except for his time in the Army and with Fluor Corporation, Ed has been a resident of
Colorado his entire life. Ed and his wife Linda have 3 children; Eric (39), Kathy (37) and Jodee
(36), 6 grandchildren (5 girls and 1 boy), along with two great granddaughters (one, a newborn
who just arrived May 23rd)
Ed brings a diverse work background with over 23 years of senior management experience
evenly distributed between private industry and local government. During his career, Ed has
worked in and around some of the best American companies and uses that exposure to
exceptional work cultures to help his organizations advance their capabilities, expertise, and professionalism.
Ed’s management philosophy centers on empowering employees to be servant leaders, to strive for continuous
improvement in their work, and to place the customer first, above all. His organizations have been tremendously
successful and at NREL won a Presidential Award for small business contracting. While at Garfield County, Ed’s
organization received recognition for excellence in financial reporting and budgeting as well as excellence in
developing and executing a key public works project. In his 13 years with Garfield County, Ed and his leadership
team increased financial reserves from $15 million to $118 million.
We look forward to a long and productive relationship with Ed Green in partnership with the council, residents and
employees of the “Best Place to Live Under the Sun.”

G OLF TIP: When approaching your long second shot on a par 4 or par 5 do you automatically reach
for your 3 wood? When most golfers are too far from the green to reach it they immediately reach for their
3 wood. This strategy is typically only good for a small percentage of the golfing population. There are a
few things you need to take into consideration before pulling out the 3 wood and lumbering away.
1. Will you actually hit your 3 wood longer and more consistent than another more forgiving club such as a 5
wood or long hybrid? Most amateurs I see hit their 5 wood longer than their 3 wood on 90% of these shots. In
“addition, they will hit their 5 wood straighter and more consistent. This strategy may be even more advantageous
in the summer months when the warm weather makes the grass in the fairways longer. In other words, hitting the
shot with more carry and less roll can yield longer shots.
2. Does is make sense to hit the ball as far as you can from your current position? There are many holes here
where you will be better off 60 yards from the pin in the fairway than you would be just off the edge of the green
but 60 feet away. When you are hitting such a long club to the green you will undoubtedly have less directional
control than with a short iron. If a long fairway wood shot puts you in a deep greenside bunker, you may be better
served to lay up to 50 yards, or a comfortable distance for your game, and play to the flag from there. Playing
short of these greenside hazards or difficult positions will also put less pressure on your short game.
On your next round try taking these factors into consideration when standing at any long second shot you are
confronted with. You may find lower scores just by taking a different approach to these shots. Good luck!
