SUPPORT OUR TROOPS USA INC.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the 3rd Annual
Support Our Troops 10K/5K & Kid’s Run. Approximately
200 participants, ranging in age from 4 to 73, took part in a
day full of energy, fun and support for our men and
women serving in our armed forces. We had a surprise
visit by Col. Meyerowich who talked with the participants
and helped give out the awards. The overall winners in
the 10K Run are John Reback, 1st place, Matt Keluel,
2nd place and David Reback, 3rd place. The overall
winners in the 5K Run are David Stone, 1st place, Janine Virano, 2nd place;
and Matt Goforth, 3rd place. Among the runners were active service members and
veterans. Everyone who ran and/or walked to show their support was definitely a winner!

RESIDENTIAL YARD WASTE REMOVAL
The Village Council in 2009 passed an Ordinance which includes an amendment to section 14-31, limiting the
amount of yard waste the Village will remove from a residential property on any scheduled yard waste collection
day.
Branches, tree limbs, shrub clippings, and palm fronds shall be limited to one pile not exceeding 8 cubic
yards, measuring approximately 4 feet wide by 15 feet long by 4 feet tall.
If yard waste placed for collection exceeds the allowable limit, property
owners shall be required to pay the costs associated with removal.
Remember, any person, group of persons, corporation, or other
entity paid a fee to perform tree trimming or landscape mainte-
nance shall be required to remove all yard waste generated by
such activities.

At one time, many developers and citizens alike believed that
it would be foolish to build anything along Northlake
Boulevard. There was nothing there at all. In fact, in
1957, east of Prosperity Farms Road, Northlake Boulevard did not even exist.
Nevertheless, plans were made, and the first meeting of shareholders, incorporators, and
subscribers, took place on December 19, 1958. In 1959, the First American Bank
became the very first building to be constructed on Northlake Boulevard.

Public Safety / Village History
LOCK IT, HIDE IT, KEEP IT
W ith summer rapidly approaching, the North Palm Beach Police Department
would like to remind you to take a few simple steps to protect your
valuables. While enjoying the park, golf course or beach take a moment when
parking your vehicle to consider three things.
Lock It Always lock your vehicle, roll up the windows and take the keys.
Hide It If you must leave valuables in the vehicle, hide them from plain sight.
Keep It A positive reminder that personal responsibility can safeguard your valuables from theft.
Don’t allow yourself to get caught up in the distractions of everyday life and be an easy target for thieves. Busy
citizens can forget to lock their car doors while they are pumping gas or running in to get milk at the grocery store.
These seemingly minor mistakes can provide an easy target for thieves and prove to be very costly to the victim.
Remember:
30—The seconds it takes a thief to break into your vehicle and take your property.
20—The seconds it takes for you to remove your valuables and lock the doors.
KITCHEN FIRE PREVENTION—KEEPING THINGS CLEANED
W e think you should know that about half of all house fires start in the kitchen. Some are
electrical, of course, but many are cooking related. Naturally, since stoves produce either
flames or red hot burners, this makes sense. Many of these cooking-related kitchen fires, if not the
vast majority of them, are caused either by carelessness, or violating some basic safety principles.
Let’s look at some of the things you can do to prevent fires and be safer in your kitchen.
They say cleanliness is next to godliness, and it’s also an important factor in reducing your risk of kitchen fires.
Pots and pans should be kept clean; for fire safety, it’s especially important to give the outside a good scrubbing,
and the bottom too. Leftover grease and food chunks can catch fire from the burner. For the same reason, it’s
important to keep the burner itself and the area around it clean. Pots and pans don’t catch fire; what’s inside and
on them does. Likewise, the toaster should be emptied of crumbs at least once a week, as these can build up
inside and catch fire. The same rule applies to toaster ovens – don’t let crumbs build up. Also, don’t forget the
regular oven and broiler. They don’t need to be cleaned quite as often, but they do need regular attention to
prevent buildup which can catch fire. A few simple precautions are all that’s necessary for safety and fire preven-
tion in the kitchen.
