A RESOLUTION OF THI; VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF NORTH
PALM BEACH, FLORIDA SUPPORTING FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES
RESOLUTION 2007-12 URGING CITIZENS TO CONSIDER THE
CONSEQUENCES OF THE PROPOSED CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT
CONCERNING PROPERTY TAXES ON THE JANUARY BALLOT AND
SUPPORTING A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PROHIBITING UNFUNDED
STATE MANDATES; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, through the enactment of Resolution 2007-12, the Florida League of Cities
acknowledged the need for property tax reform, yet urged the citizens of this state to consider the
consequences of the proposed constitutional amendment concerning property taxes that will
appeaz on the January 29, 2008 ballot; and
WHEREAS, as determined by the Florida League of Cities, the proposed amendment
compounds the disparities and inequities embedded in the current property tax structure and fails
to adequately inform citizens of the amendment's impact on their essential services due the
proposal's unknown fiscal impact; and
WHEREAS, the state continues to impose unfunded mandates on municipalities and other units
• of local government, forcing them to raise property taxes to fund state initiatives at the expense
of services to their citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE
OF NORTH PALM BEACH, FLORIDA as follows:
Section 1. The foregoing recitals aze ratified as true and incorporated herein.
Section 2. The Village Council of the Village of North Palm Beach, Florida, hereby
expresses its support of Florida League of Cities Resolution 2007-12 and urges its citizens to
consider the consequences of the proposed constitutional amendment concerning property taxes
as identified by the Florida League of Cities. The Village Council further expresses its support
for a constitutional amendment that would prohibit unfunded mandates and for the development
of a meaningful and comprehensive tax reform plan.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
