DID YOU KNOW?
The Winter Club, which would eventually
become the North Palm Beach Country Club, opened
its doors in 1927. In order to make it easier for
people to get there from their hotels, a road was built
to connect the club to Kelsey City, which was
renamed Lake Park in 1939. That road would
later become part of U.S. Highway One.

Millions of people celebrate Easter and Passover each year, and food is usually part of many family traditions.
Don't let food poisoning ruin your holiday. Use these tips from the N.P.B. Fire Rescue Department.
HAM
Fully cooked ready-to-eat hams may be heated to 140° at an oven temperature of 325° before serving. It also
may be served cold. Fresh (raw) hams should be cooked to an internal temperature of 160°.
LAMB & BEEF
Lamb and beef roasts should be cooked to at least 145°, in an oven set no lower than 325°. Ground meats,
on the other hand, should cook to 160°; steaks and chops to 145°.
EGGS
Eggs should be cooked thoroughly. Since hard-cooked eggs are a favorite for Easter and the Passover Seder
plate, special care should be taken. Hard-cooked eggs should not be kept out of the refrigerator for more than
2 hours, so they should be hidden just before an Easter egg hunt, or just before the Passover Seder plate is
ready to be set on the table.
THE PASSOVER SEDER
Serving the traditional Passover meal on the first night presents some food safety challenges as the entire
meal must be prepared ahead so that everyone can participate in the Seder ceremony. Cold food can be
arranged on platters ahead of time and served directly from the refrigerator.
HANDLING LEFTOVERS
All perishable foods should not stand at room temperature for more than 2 hours. Place leftovers in
shallow containers, use within 3-4 days, or freeze. Thoroughly reheat leftovers to 165°.

Is your Vehicle a “Crime Waiting to Happen?”
Have you taken the necessary precautions to avoid becoming a victim?
The North Palm Beach Police Department is asking your cooperation in
reducing vehicle theft in our communities.
You can do this by practicing these tips:
• Always lock your parked vehicle
• Never leave your running vehicle unattended
• In parking lots, be aware of people wandering through the lot, looking into parked vehicles
• Use an alarm or wheel-locking device (i.e. "The Club")
• Install an anti-theft device, such as a starter disabler; kill switch or a fuel shut-off switch. These can render
your vehicle un-drivable if stolen.
• Participate in the C.A.T. Program. Residents of North Palm Beach can assist Law
Enforcement by placing a C.A.T. decal in their back window giving authorization to
stop the vehicle if it is on the roadway between 1:00-5:00 a.m. If you would like to
participate in the C.A.T. Program please contact Sergeant Dallesandro at 841-3300.
This program is not recommended for persons who operate their vehicle at that
time. Even if such use is infrequent.
• REPORT ALL THEFTS, or attempts to law enforcement!

PLAYING IN THE WIND
As you already know, we are very susceptible to windy days here in South Florida. The wind is typically
lighter in the summer months and does offer some relief from the hot days. During the winter and spring the
wind usually blows very hard across the open North Palm Beach Country Club golf course. When playing in
the gusty winter months there is more to know besides wearing a few extra layers of clothing.
If you find yourself playing against the wind or in a strong cross-wind the goal should be to keep the ball as
low as possible. If you can keep your ball flight low then there is less chance that the wind will affect the ball.
There are 4 keys when trying to play a lower flying shot:
1. Choke down on the club 1 – 2 inches. This will make the club play stiffer as well as shortening the arc the
club will swing on, both leading to a lower shot.
2. Play the ball 1 – 2 inches back in your stance from where you would typically play that given club.
3. Make a ¾ length backswing.
4. Finish low. A lower finish will almost always give you a lower flight to your golf shot.
We now have the techniques necessary for the into-the-wind and cross-wind shots, but what should we do on
the down wind holes? Enjoy them!
Happy Golfing,
