Village Clerk
On September 30, 2010, Mayor Manuel presented a
certificate to Planning Commission member
Arnold Rothstein in appreciation of his service to the
Village.
On October 14, 2010, Dr. Joan Aubrey was presented
with a certificate and photograph in appreciation of her
service as Village Historian. In addition to collecting
and preserving articles and photos pertinent to North
Palm Beach, Joan established a Historian’s office
downstairs at the Library, where residents could come
to peruse the historic archives. Thank you, Joan, for all
your hard work!
Volunteers Needed for Palm Beach County!
The AARP Tax-Aide
program needs volunteers
to help senior citizens and
low/moderate income
individuals prepare their
2010 tax returns. All
volunteers will receive training and are asked to
serve for four hours one day each week during
tax season. For more information contact Bill
Dwyer at taxwill@gmail.com or (561) 594-1035.
POLL WORKERS NEEDED
Poll Workers perform a vital
service to their community
as an important part of the
elections process. The
Village Clerk and the Palm
Beach County Supervisor
of Elections are always
seeking to recruit
additional poll workers for
municipal and general elections. To become a poll
worker you must be a registered voter in Palm
Beach County, fill out a poll worker application for
the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections,
complete orientation and a minimum of 3 to 7 hours
of training prior to each election, depending on
which position is filled:
Precinct Clerk: In charge of all operations at the
precinct and has added responsibilities prior to
election day such as picking up supplies the day
before an election and inspecting the polling place.
Inspector: Processes and assists voters in
casting their ballots
Precinct Deputy: Maintains peace and good
order on the outside of the polling location.
Precinct Advisor: Utilizes the laptop to retrieve
and verify voter information; assists the Clerk.
For more information on these paid
positions, please contact the Supervisor of
Elections at 656-6200, visit the website at
www.pbcelections.org or call the Village Clerk’s
office at 841-3355.

HOLIDAY SAFETY
Now that holiday season is in full swing, your Fire Rescue wants to remind you to be careful in your choice of
decorations. A few simple steps can help you make this time of year safe and enjoyable for everyone.
• Never leave candles burning when unattended. Better yet, use “flameless” candles.
• Make sure to use the proper light string for the location. Not all light strings, or extension cords, are rated for
outdoor use. Check the UL rating prior to use.
• Be careful not to put too many light strings and electrical decorations on the same circuit. It is easy to over-
heat a circuit without causing the breaker to trip resulting in a fire.
• If you are decorating a tree, we recommend flame retardant artificial ones, but if you must have the real
thing keep it well watered and discard it at the first signs of drying out. Real trees burn at an astonishingly
fast rate. In either case, turn off the lights when leaving the house or before going to bed.
Remember, if you have any problems or questions we’re always here to help. Dial 911 in any emergency and
848-2525 for non-emergency.
4TH ANNUAL ADOPT-A-FAMILY
The North Palm Beach Public Safety Department is holding the 4th
Annual holiday program to adopt a family in need. Our goal is to offer
assistance to legitimately needy families that live in or are associated with this
community.
We are looking for local businesses and residents to partner with us in this en-
deavor. Any contribution that you make will only be used for the identified fami-
lies and will not go towards any administrative cost.
A box will be placed in the lobby to collect donations. Items collected can be
unopened/unused food, clothing and toys. Thank you for your consideration of
this project. Together we can make a difference in the lives of those that are
less fortunate.
For more information, contact Crime Prevention Sergeant Angela Dallesandro
at 841-3300.

From the Golf Shop
One of the most common questions that golf professionals get from other golfers is how they can hit it farther off
the tee. We all love hitting that big drive and knocking it past our playing partners, even us pros! In its most ba-
sic form, the distance of your drive will be determined by the clubhead speed and solidness of contact. These
two variables will determine our golf ball’s speed when we “launch” it into the air. While the many other areas
that influence both distance and direction, such as launch angle, angle of attack, clubface position and the club’s
path, for this month’s tip, let’s keep it simple.
All else being equal a driver’s clubhead speed will be faster than other clubs because it is longer. Yet most
people try to swing harder or “come out of their shoes” when they are trying to hit a big drive. Focusing on
making good solid contact with your “normal” swing will more consistently produce longer drives. If you want to
increase your clubhead speed, you need to do so without sacrificing good, solid contact. A great way to
determine if you are swinging in control and not too hard is to see if you can finish your swing in a balanced
position, even holding your finish until the ball lands. Gaining flexibility through stretching or
using training aides are great ways to increase clubhead speed. I am not a big fan of
weighted clubs, but there other devices specifically designed to help improve your swing
speed. Learning to swing the club faster with the same amount of control and solid
contact will happen gradually so look for slow, steady improvement instead of believing
all those “gain 30 yards to your tee shot in just 5 minute” gimmicks. Every golfer’s
swing is unique so stop in and ask one of your professionals for tips on your swing or
sign up for a lesson. Also remember that the January 3rd Free Member Clinic will be
on Driving Distance…hope to see you there!

Dave
