Community News Pg. 4—Community News FROM THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY, CHIEF ROBERT M. O’NEILL Happy New Year 2010! We hope your holidays were merry and we wish you all a happy, healthy, and safe New Year. Due to the tireless efforts of each member of your public safety department, and thanks to the residents of this wonderful Village, crime is in check and we continue to enjoy a safe community. The unfortunate reality is that the Village is not immune to criminal activity and there is more work to be done. More often than not, offenses here in the Village are crimes of opportunity which are being perpetrated by individual(s) from outside of North Palm Beach. Successes such as the reduction in crime and successful investigative clearances can only be attributed to partnerships! The partnerships between the Public Safety Department and the residents are invaluable in promottin the quality of life that is enjoyed here in North Palm Beach. The Department of Public Safety offers many community education and crime prevention programs, as well as volunteer organizations within the Law Enforcement and Fire Rescue Divisions. I want to assure each and every resident of North Palm Beach that the Department of Public Safety is committed to providing the very best service to our residents and will strive to do even better. FIRE RESCUE Your Public Safety Department Fire Rescue Division is proud to announce the delivery of our new resccu truck. Some might call it an ambulance, but it is a rescue truck; allow me to explain. As a full service fire rescue division, all of our personnel provide both firefighting and emergency medical servicces As such we must carry a multitude of equipment for each function. This new rescue vehicle provides the exterior cabinet space to carry the firefighting equipment our personnel must have available at all times. The cab accommodates three staff members, including the driver, and two Firemedics in special seats that house their breathing apparatus to speed deployment. As far as medical services, by keeping all the firefighting equipment outside the patient compartment we have a cleaner environment to work and more room for patient care. The unit has a built-in refrigerator/freezer allowing us to carry a wider variety of medicines which require refrigeration. The unit enables us to provide cutting edge cardiac and stroke care called; induuce hypothermia, as we can maintain the necessary equipmeen at the proper temperature. While we hope you never need our services, it should be comforting to know that the Village continues in its effort to provide the highest level of service to our citizens and guests.
