VILLAGE-WIDE PHONE SYSTEM UPGRADE
Discussion took place concerning a proposed agreement with Shazed Technologies for a new
• telephone system for all Village facilities. Village Manager Jimmy Knight detailed problems
with the current NEC telephone system Mr. Knight noted that the current year's budget
includes $30,000 to upgrade the telephone system; however, because the system can't be
upgraded, an additional $40,000 has been included in the 2008 Budget for this purchase.
Ron Foster, Systems Engineer with Shared Technologies, advised that the telephone system
includes all new equipment, as well as a 5-year warranty on parts, if the system is purchased by
August 31, 2007. Mr. Foster reviewed certain features of the system. Information Systems
Manager Michael Applegate confirmed that this system exceeds our present needs and allows for
future growth. Mr. Applegate answered questions on various functions ofthe new system
Mr. Knight noted that the telephone system is a proprietary system and that Shared Technologies
is on the state contract, and this purchase is a piggyback on the Company's contract with the City
of Boynton Beach.
Discussion ensued on additional costs and recurring costs associated with the new system, such
as changing the trunk line and installing a new T-1 line.
Council consensus was to move this item to the 8/23/07 Regulaz Session agenda. It was
requested that Council be provided with a list of all costs associated with the project.

Mr. Fleischmann advised that it is necessary to complete Phase III, which wmprises the land-use
plan amendments resulting from the study and duected by the Village's Evaluation and
Appraisal Report. Mr. Fleischmann stated that the visioning process recommended by the
Planning Commission would probably exceed the remaining funding for Phases II and III.
