LAKESIDE PARK -AUSTRALIAN PINE TREE REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT
Discussion took place concerning the proposed removal of Australian Pine Trees at Lakeside
Park. Mr. Bates noted that removal of the Australian Pine Trees was discussed some years ago
and the Council at that time did not take any action. Mr. Bates reported that Hurricane Wilma
damaged a lot of the Australian Pine Trees and Lakeside Park was closed for about two months,
while hanging tree limbs and debris were removed. Mr. Bates reported that the Village has
applied for a grant to remove some trees and replace them with native trees, and further advised
that trees on the north side would be removed before the pavilion is replaced. A plan showing
the layout of trees to be removed and replacement trees will be brought back to the last Council
meeting in October.
Parks and Recreation Director Mark Hodgkins reported that there is a $35,000 grant that requires
matching funds, and a $ 10,000 non-matching grant from Palm Beach County for this project.
It was suggested that ribbon be used to mark the trees that are scheduled for replacement, so
residents using the park will be able to see which trees are going to be taken out.
Discussion took place concerning FEMA reimbursement for hurricane damage at Lakeside Park.
Mr. Bates asked concerned citizens to provide their email addresses or phone numbers to
Mr. Hodgkins.
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business to come before the Council, the meeting adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
