VILLAGE MANAGER SELECTION PROCESS
The purpose of the Special Session was to discuss the selection process for filling the position of
Village Manager.
Discussion took place concerning three selection methods:
• Engage a professional executive search firm (such as Colin Baenziger & Associates) to
perform local and national recruitment selection services. The Village contracts with the
firm to collect and verify application data and short-list candidates to be interviewed by
the elected officials or a selection committee.
Use the Human Resources Department to advertise, collect, and process applications,
which would be turned over to a selection committee or the elected officials.
• Outgoing executive participates in identifying a suitable replacement.
Mr. Knight reviewed pending issues, including the budget process, collective bargaining
agreements, Country Club restaurant liquor license, and appointment of a representative to the
Seacoast Utility Authority Governing Board.
Discussion ensued regarding the salary range of the position, which was advertised at $100,000
to $140,000 in 2007.
By consensus, Council determined to begin with a networking approach in identifying potential
replacements for Mr. Knight.
ADJOURNMENT
